you should never do backup like this

never start backup scripts like in this example found somewhere in the web (I've already informed the authtor ;)):
#!/bin/bash
rm -f /path/to/backups/

ALWAYS: do backup, verify the backup, then delete (best practice say that you should store some previous backups "just in case")

It's much better than rm -f / or rm -f ~

Some filesystems/distros does not allow you to make rm -rf /
